Make your own sushi now :D
Food Lovers (0)

Although you can visit any Sushi restaurant and enjoy fresh, delicious food, another option is to learn how to make Sushi at home. For some reason, many people feel intimidated when it comes to making Sushi but in reality, the process is not complicated and the results will be exactly as you would find in a Sushi restaurant. Just imagine having a dinner party and serving fresh, homemade Sushi!

There are three types of Sushi – Narezushi, Hayazushi, and Namanarizushi. The most commonly served is Hayazushi, which is what you find in Sushi rolls and the type of Sushi most often sold in restaurants. To make Sushi, you do not need expensive equipment and any specialty spices can be purchased at most grocery stores. If needed, you can locate an Asian store where you live to find the various things you need or order online.

To get started, you will need to set out the things needed to make your Sushi:

♥ Bowl of water containing three lemon slices
♥ Bamboo Sushi roll mat
♥ Sharp knife
♥ Clean cutting board
♥ Pack of roasted seaweed
♥ Clean, wet hand towel
♥ Cooled Sushi rice
♥ Bowl of wasabi made from one part water and one part wasabi powder (condiment)

♥ Using your knife and cutting board, cut the seaweed in half.

Roll it out on the front end of the bamboo mat.

♥ Moisten your hands with the lemon water, take 5 ounces of rice, and form it into the shape of a rod.

♥ Spread the rice from left to right onto one-half of the seaweed.

Moisten your hands again and use the wet towel to wipe them off, which will be done each time after handling the rice.

♥ Leaving about 1/2-inch at the top of the seaweed spread the rice out evenly, leaving a slight groove in the center.

♥ This groove is where you will place the fish or vegetables.

Moisten and wipe your hands again.

♥ Next, place the strip of fish or vegetables of choice in the groove.

♥ Carefully, lift and roll the front end of the bamboo mat to the other end of the rice, pressing slightly.

♥ Now roll the mat from the other end.

♥ The 1/2-inch space you left will be sealed with the other end of the seaweed.

♥ Next, press the mat lightly at the center, sliding your hands down to the ends.

♥ Gently remove the mat and press both ends of the seaweed to create a tight seal.

♥ To serve, use the sharp knife to cut into 3/4–inch pieces, creating a round circle filled with fish and/or vegetables.

♥ For professional chefs, you will find that Sushi comes in a variety of shapes, each a personal signature of the chef’s skill.

♥ After you have some practice in making Sushi, you too can create your own signature shape if you like.

♥ Remember to be patient.

♥ While making Sushi is not difficult, it does require getting used to.

♥ If you find that you and the rice are having a battle and the rice is winning, just remember to remoisten your hands and wipe them on the towel.

To serve your Sushi, there are three primary condiments:

Soy Sauce – This condiment is healthy and the perfect choice if your Sushi has fish, as it will help to bring out the natural flavors

Wasabi Paste – If you like hot and spicy, you will love Wasabi Paste. This appears as a green glob but it is actually made from horseradish and is not for the faint of heart.

Pickled Ginger – This condiment should not be eaten with fish. Actually, the pickled ginger is used to cleanse the palette if you are eating a variety of Sushi types. As you finish one variety, you take a very small bite of the pickled ginger and then move on to the next variety of Sushi.

Just about everyone loves lollipops, and making homemade lollipops is a great family project. These great candy corn lollipops make a wonderful treat for the whole family, so why not mix up a batch tonight?

Ingredient List
Lollipop sticks
Candy corn
2 cups of sugar
2/3 cup of corn syrup
2/3 cup of water
1/4 teaspoon orange or lemon extract
Orange and yellow food coloring
Needed Items
Silicone baking mat
Lollipop collar molds
Candy thermometer
Preparation Steps
Lay the lollipop collar molds on the silicone baking mat, fill the molds with lollipop sticks and place a piece of candy corn in to each collar.

Combine the sugar, corn syrup and water using a small saucepan which has been fitted with a candy thermometer, then bring the mixture to a boil over high heat. Do not stir the mixture. Cook until the mixture has reached 305 degrees Fahrenheit. Wash down the sides of the pan with a clean brush occasionally to prevent crystallization during the cooking process.

After the mixture is done, the pot should be removed from the heat and dipped into an ice bath for 15 seconds to prevent further cooking. Next add the orange or lemon extract and the food coloring and stir the mixture very gently using a wooden skewer until the color has been distributed evenly. Stir in both directions to prevent air bubbles from forming, but be careful not to over-mix.

Next, carefully spoon the syrup into the lollipop molds. If lollipop molds are not available the syrup can simply be poured over the sticks and candy corn. When not using the collars, be sure to make a quarter sized disk. Allow the mixture to cool until it has hardened. This generally takes at least 20 minutes.

The last step is to life the finished lollipops off of the mat and remove them from the prepared molds. Plastic bags can be slipped over the lollipops for storage, and they can be stored in an airtight container for up to two days.

These great lollipops make a wonderful autumn craft project, and these homemade candy treats are the perfect gift for Halloween parties and trick or treating. In addition these great treats can be perfect for just enjoying at home, and they make a wonderful addition to any gift bag. If you are looking for a wonderful family project the next time Halloween rolls around, this recipe may be the one for you.

LOLLIPOPS(:

A lollipop, or sucker, is a type of hard candy consisting mostly of flavored sucrose and corn syrup that is mounted on a stick for sucking or licking. Lollipops have been around for about 100 years and over that time these candies have evolved in both shape and size. Several types have a special treat when you get towards the middle such as gum or chewy tootsie center. Some, found mostly at carnivals or theme parks, come in huge sizes that take all day to eat. Regardless of shape and size, lollipops have become a beloved confection in our society today.

How lollipops are manufactured:

Step 1: Most manufacturers bring in huge quantities of raw materials and produce in mass quantities. Typically, about 90 tons (180,000 lb) of sugar is dumped into water that is heated to about 180 degrees Fahrenheit to dissolve. Once this process is done, the sugar and water mix is pumped into a pre-cooker.

Step 2: As mentioned earlier, the other main ingredient of lollipops is corn syrup. The corn syrup is pumped into the pre-cooker as well until a mixture of about 45% corn syrup and 55% sugar and water is reached. The new concoction is now heated at 228 degrees Fahrenheit in the pre-cooker and then sent to the final cooker for further heating.

Step 3: In the final cooker, the mixture is heated to a temperature of 290 degrees Fahrenheit in a vacuum environment. The vacuum environment is to remove the heat and moisture from the mixture.

Step 4: After it is cooked, all the coloring and flavorings are added. Also citric and malic acid are added to promote certain flavors. Citric acid enhances the flavor of fruit flavored lollipops whereas malic acid enhances non-fruit flavored suckers.

Step 5: The batch is then sent to a kneading machine that mixes the flavor and color in by using two large mechanical arms to roll the batch over itself. This type of action also incorporates air bubbles into the candy making it lighter and easier to break.

Step 6: The lollipops are almost finished and are sent through a machine that forms the entire mix into a ropelike shape. Depending on the end product, the lollipops are either shaped in a machine or they are wrapped around a stick by hand.

Additional Fun Facts About Lollipops:

The world’s largest lollipop that is certified by Guinness World Records was over two tons (4016 lb), 62.8 inches in diameter and 18.9 inches thick. Now that’s one huge sucker!

National lollipop day is honored on July 20th.

The term lollipop comes from a race horse named “Lolly Pop”.

Food contains .FATS.CARBONHYDRATES.PROTEINS
let us learn about some facts of them.

Fat: Your body needs fat to grow and to process vitamins. There are many different kinds of fats. Polyunsaturated and monounsaturated fats are good for your body. These fats include nuts and fish, as well as olive, peanut, safflower and canola oil. Other kinds of fat, including saturated and trans fat, also called hydrogenated oils, can increase the risk of certain diseases. Saturated and trans fats are found in butter, fried foods, baked goods, fast food, whole milk and in meat from animals

Carbohydrates are sugars that the body uses for energy. Simple carbohydrates, also called simple sugars, provide the body with quick energy. They are found in fruit, milk and white sugar. Complex carbohydrates, known as fiber and starch, are broken down in the body slower than simple carbohydrates. They are found in vegetables, bread, rice, oatmeal, whole grains and peas.

Protein helps the body grow, builds muscle and give us energy. Protein-rich foods include meats, eggs, avocado, nuts and beans.

How much water should I drink with my healthy diet?

Most experts suggest drinking at least eight 8-oz. glasses of water a day. However, you may need to drink more water if you are very active, pregnant or breastfeeding, live in a warmer climate, or have certain health problems. Heavy people may also need more water.

You don’t need a degree in nutrition to ensure that you get a well-balanced diet that provides the daily nutrients you need – simply focus on six basic food groups:

Whole Grains: Whole grains include whole wheat, brown rice, oatmeal, whole grain barley and millet. Avoid food with refined grains including many breads, pastas, and breakfast cereals.

Vegetables: Go for the brights: the deeper the color, the greater the concentration of vitamins, minerals and antioxidants. Dark green and orange vegetables, from broccoli, kale and mustard greens to butternut squash and sweet potatoes, are several excellent choices.

Fruits: Enjoy fruits in a number of ways: fresh, canned, frozen, dried, whole, cut-up, or pureed. Fruit juices can contain up to 10 teaspoons of sugar per cup; avoid or dilute with water

Milk and other dairy: Choose low-fat dairy products. It is important to choose dairy products that DO NOT contain rBST (bovine growth hormone). Organic dairy is best. If you're lactose-intolerant, choose lactose-free and lower-lactose products, such as hard cheeses and yogurt.

Protein: Vary your healthy eating protein choices with a variety of fish, poultry, eggs, beans, peas, nuts and seeds. Minimize red meats containing high levels of saturated fat.

Oils: We’ve been taught to fear fats and oils, but fresh, high quality fats from olive oil, avocado, raw nuts & seeds, coconut and fish actually provide excellent (and necessary) sources of healthy fatty acids in your diet.

Tips and advice for a healthy diet
Food Lovers (0)
* A healthy diet helps improve your overall health and well being.
* A healthy diet can help you feel better, provide you with more energy, help you stay fit and active, and help you fight stress.
* Healthy eating can prevent most cases of heart disease and diabetes and help ward off high blood pressure, osteoporosis, and some forms of cancer.

Eating smart: The first step towards healthy eating
Healthy eating begins with learning how to “eat smart”. -- It's not just what you eat, but how you eat.

Take time to chew your food: Digestion begins in the mouth. Chewing breaks the food into smaller particles and mixes the food with saliva that contains digestive enzymes.

Thorough digestion is key to the absorption of nutrients and to good health!

Chew your food slowly, savoring every bite. We tend to rush though our meals, forgetting to actually taste the flavors and feel the textures of what is in our mouths. Reconnect with the joy of eating.

Avoid stress while eating. When we are stressed, our digestion can be compromised. Avoid eating while working, driving, or watching TV (especially disturbing programs or the news).

Also avoid confrontations, serious discussions or worry during meals. If you feel stressed or upset, stop eating and relax before continuing with your meal. Try taking some deep breaths prior to beginning your meal, or light candles and play soothing music to create a relaxing atmosphere.

Listen to your body: Stop eating when you feel full. It actually takes a few minutes for your brain to tell your body that it has had enough food, so eating slowly can help you get a more accurate read on this, as well. Eating just enough to satisfy your hunger will help you remain alert, relaxed and feeling your best, rather than stuffing yourself into a “food coma”!

Eat early, eat often: Remember this old saying: breakfast like a king, lunch like a prince, dinner like a pauper.

Starting your day with a healthy breakfast can jumpstart your metabolism, and eating the majority of your daily caloric allotment early in the day gives your body time to work those calories off.

Also, eating six small, healthy meals throughout the day, rather than the standard three large meals, can help keep your metabolism going and ward off snack attacks.
